Ngorongoro

An early start to the day with our final game drive  600 metres down from the crater rim into the cool crater floor measuring 259 sq km. The excitement began when a Lion came wandering along the road right infront of us.
The crater is the home to many animals who find this area while they are migrating and make it their home as it offers everything they need. We saw more buffalo here in large groups than anywhere we have been. We had our first sighting of a Rhinoceros in the distance. There are only 24 here in the crater. Becoming scarce.
The very vicious Cape Buffalo

A closer look at the wildebeest
Hippos and spoonbill stalks sharing the fresh water together.
Lake Magadi is the home to thousands of birds and looked a real picture with all the Flamingos sitting on it. Over a hundred bird species not found in the Serengeti can be found here.

Our usual daily picnic lunch...... on the crater rim after finishing our final game drive
The group from our truck with our lovely guide/driver/conservationist Erick. He's full of knowledge and has eyes like an eagle. You can see him scanning the countryside as he drives
This is what road works looks like
Our beautiful accommodation with a real colonial feel built & planted by a German couple 20 years ago. This was our wing at Plantation Lodge with beautiful grounds. Another one of Sues contacts when she lived in the area.
Pool area
Could have settled in here for a few more nights.
