Arusha

With our wildlife Safari behind us we headed back to Arusha stopping at the Burka Coffee Estate for an introduction to the world of coffee. For me who is not keen on coffee I thought this would be interesting excercise.
A few baboons on the roadside eating something that had dropped off a truck
The Maasai grazing the land. I'm not sure what they find to eat.

A typical scene
Street scene

A coffee plant. This is so similar to growing grapes and the tasting that follows. One of the staff  took us through the coffee Estate and explained how the plants grow and the process after picking through to tasting.

Pickers heading out to handpick the coffee.  Harvest goes on for several months as they don't ripen all at once. Average of about 50 cups per bush so it makes a cup of coffee look very cheap when you see the work involved.
Time for some coffee tasting.
They were determined to get me drinking coffee and there was only one bean that appealed which of coarse was the least processed and the most expensive.
From there we visited the Arusha Art Gallery that sold everything...... carvings
fabric & clothes, African jewellery and their local Tanzanite. Here we enjoyed a delicious BBQ lunch starting with a very tasty banana soup. We returned to our original accommodation at The Arusha Hotel. A brief rest then out to a local evening to bid farewell to our Safari guides. We couldn't have had better guides handpicked by Sue.
